About Clause 60
Why a commercial manager built Clause 60.
Clause 60 was founded by Sheldon Wright — a chartered commercial manager (MCICES) who has spent over twenty years assessing NEC compensation events, and built the tool he wished he'd had.
Why I built Clause 60
"I've worked on compensation events under the NEC for over twenty years. Over that time — and increasingly through my consultancy work — two things became impossible to ignore: the burden that assessing compensation events puts on your time, and the pressure to make every one robust and defensible.
I'm also genuinely enthusiastic about what modern technology can do for the way construction projects are managed. That combination — the burden, and the belief it could be done better — is what prompted me to build Clause 60. I took it from an idea and built the application from scratch."
The experience behind it
Sheldon is a chartered commercial manager (MCICES) with over 20 years assessing compensation events under the NEC forms of contract — from quantity surveyor to senior commercial manager on some of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes. His career spans major highways, rail, environmental and utilities schemes from £5m to £4bn — including the £4bn Transpennine Route Upgrade (Network Rail) and National Highways' £1bn Routes to Market framework — with tier-one contractors including BAM Nuttall, across NEC 2nd, 3rd and 4th editions and Options A to E. He continues to advise major contractors and energy and infrastructure clients through his consultancy, Wright Commercial Consultants.
Where we are today
Clause 60 is a UK company — Clause 60 Limited — built to the standard the industry should expect of anyone handling its contract data. The platform has been independently penetration-tested by a CREST-certified firm, we're Cyber Essentials certified across the whole organisation, and we're registered with the ICO and built to UK GDPR. Where we're going
We're growing Clause 60 into a SaaS platform that harnesses the power of AI to help construction companies maximise their margin and raise the quality of their work. Our ambition is to become a household name in construction — and to hold ourselves to the high standard of service the industry deserves.
Where Clause 60 is heading
Our direction of travel — the first is live today; the rest are what we're building next. Indicative, not a commitment to dates.
